Gravity doesn't sleep! I admit, I can wake up face smashed into the pillow. I do strive for back sleeping position though. Our sleeping position plays a lot into our "look".
Your head weighs about 11 pounds. And if you have a favorite sleeping position that is not your back, you are probably contributing to wrinkles & asymmetry. 11 pounds for 5-8 hours...is a recipe for a nightmare!
Do you have an eyebrow that is higher; 1 side of your face is almost a different person; wrinkles prominent to 1 side of your face; corners of the mouth droop on 1 side; eyes asymmetrical or even 1 more closed; nose droop? All pretty much dead giveaways to which side you are sleeping on. Not to mention how does your neck or shoulder feel?
Everything is connected - tightness in the body translates to the face. Sleep is a time for self healing as well as cell regeneration, your sleep environment & position is critical.
Face Yoga is about creating self awareness - what are the healthy & unhealthy habits contributing to the state of our skin health? What are the mindless habits that we do that create additional lines or droopiness? I.e. sleeping, brushing teeth or hair, favoring a side to chew on, talking on the phone.
The exercises are about 20% of your success - the rest is awareness.
Tonight be aware of your sleeping position, consciously strive to sleep in healthier position - not just for your face, but your body too!
