"Chakra" in Sanskrit means "wheel" or "disk" - they are thought to be spinning disks of energy. Chakras are your energy centers, mentions of them have been found in sacred texts dating back to 1500 to 1000 BC. They should stay open, aligned & balanced as they affect our energetic body & our overall wellbeing.
There are 7 major chakras that run from the base of the spine to crown of the head:
Root - Sacral - Solar Plexus - Heart - Throat - 3rd Eye - Crown Chakra
Opening up the chakras in the hands is an easy way to experience the energy in your body - once you experience it, transfer the sensation to other areas of your body & see how you feel.
You can always research more info (this video certainly isn't going to be the last time it's discussed). But if you feel outta alignment, meditation really helps. And YouTube has plenty wonderful meditations specifically for balancing them.
